Tabora Zoo
A small zoo under old trees in Kitete, run by the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority: an easy afternoon out in town.

Tabora Zoo sits in Kitete ward, in the green, administrative part of town near the regional offices and the big schools. It is run by TAWA, the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority, and is the kind of place Tabora families go on a Sunday: shaded paths, a few animals, and benches under the trees.
It is not a safari. For wild Tanzania, go to Ugalla River National Park or Igombe Dam. But for an hour or two with children in the heat of the afternoon, the zoo is the obvious choice, and it is a short walk or boda-boda ride from the centre.
